Tatami Teuri
Tatami Teuri
The word tatami in its origin means "folded and stacked." It´s a mat, which has different uses. However, it plays a fundamental role in Japanese culture. This element has a cultural value of great relevance within the Japanese identity.
In their origins, tatamis were accessories used on the floor of the main rooms of the wealthiest families, since, by that time, most of the floors were dirt. Over time, it became commonly used in all Japanese homes, including the humblest.
The use of this mat´s wide in Japanese culture, as it´s also used for sleeping and eating. It should be noted that the tatami doesn´t have to be stepped on with shoes, that´s, the footwear must be removed and passed through said mat barefoot or with socks.
